One Moment For A Lifetime Of Love
An Adaptation by Lord Alfred Tennyson. Set against the backdrop of a quaint New Zealand fishing village in 1910, this is a “Notebook” meets “Count of Monte Cristo” story of unrequited love.
STORY SYNOPSIS: Through a series of traumatic events a lifelong friendship is born, bonding three children: Annie, Enoch and Phillip. Phillip is the timid son of the second wealthiest man in town. Enoch, at age 10, has lost his father to the sea during the storm of St. Christopher. Eight-year-old Annie is fighting her own demons being the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her Uncle. As the years pass a triangle will develop that defines the true meaning of love and sacrifice.
Annie grows into a beautiful young woman, her heart torn between these two male archetypes. Enoch, a young, strong dockworker becomes the intentional, passionate lover who is tactile and safe for Annie. Phillip has become aristocratic, introspective and artistic, yet lives a life overshadowed by his secret desire for Annie. Falling in love, Enoch and Annie eventually marry and start a family. Phillip can only watch, as his hopes for happiness are lost. Enoch, born to be a sailor, is adventurous and risks everything to purchase his own merchant ship “Destiny” an appropriate name as this would prove to change the course of their lives forever. The “Destiny” never returns from its maiden voyage.
Seven years pass, and Philip, now emboldened, confesses his undying love for Annie. Heartbroken, Annie finally resolves to let Enoch go. She weds Phillip knowing she must learn to love all over again. Their first child is born just as Enoch returns. Dying from disease, he’s a ghost of a man, having survived on a desert island for ten years. Learning of Annie’s happiness, he stays hidden from her and is prepared to die alone. In the end, the true antagonist is fate, and a moment may be all that’s left for love.
